Year 8 Geography Field Trip

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As part of the Year 8 Geography course we will be taking all of the students out of school for a day to carry out some fieldwork related to the topics they have been studying in class. These are concerning coastal processes and ecosystems and on the fieldtrip the students will visit a beach at Hoi Ha Wan and a woodland at Tai Po Kau.
On the day the students will work in small groups to collect data using a variety of techniques, including beach quality assessments, land use mapping and annotated sketches.
The dates that the groups will be out are:
              Monday 6th February; 8.1, 8.3, 8.5 and 8.7
              Or
              Thursday 9th February; 8.2, 8.4, 8.6 and 8.8
Buses will take students to the sites after morning registration and return them back to school in time for school buses at the end of the day.
The students do not need to wear school uniform on that day, but they should wear presentable, casual clothes and footwear suitable for walking over rough ground and on beaches. They should check the weather forecast to see whether sun cream and hats or waterproofs and umbrellas are required. A packed lunch and drink will also be needed, as well as a clipboard or sheet of stiff card to work on and pens, pencils and a ruler. A camera would also be very useful, although students could share one in their group.
If you have any questions concerning this trip then please contact any member of the department. Please complete and sign the reply slip and return to the Lower School Office room 127 or a Geography teacher.
Yours sincerely,
Ms. Heap, Ms. Griffiths and Mr. Overens
