STC at HKSSF Competition

The blazing sun shone over the students from all over Hong Kong, as they eagerly waited on the bleachers for the loudspeakers to call their name. On the 25th of October and the 3rd of November, the Hong Kong School Sports Federation (HKSSF) hosted their highly anticipated annual Interschool Swimming Championships in the Kowloon Park Swimming Pool. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the event was closed to the public, with only the competitors and supervisors permitted to attend. Despite the lack of spectators, the atmosphere still buzzed with competition, with everyone cheering loudly for the competing swimmers! 

Ms. Hanley, one of the PE teachers, chose the STC representatives this year, with participants ranging from Year 7 to Year 12. The talented students certainly did not disappoint! Sha Tin College students had outstanding performances at the competition, with an impressive 7 students on the winning podium by the end of the event. A huge congratulations to Issac Tsang (9D2), Rachel Shin (9G1), and Nicholas Kwan (9G2) for getting first place in their races! One of the competitors, Suri Lau (12D2) commented, “The day was very fun, so proud of everyone that swam!” Everyone displayed excellent sportsmanship through boosting each other’s confidence and motivating each other. 

However, the event definitely was not easy for the students. It was highly competitive; one of our competitors, Kristie Chan (12P2), stated how she felt nervous that day – the event was intense and exhausting, but all swimmers did their best and many came back with epic results! Impressively, Kristie was able to place second in her race, beating out several of her competitors. 

Once again, congratulations to all the swimmers who have competed – everyone performed remarkably well. The Sha Tin College community is lucky to have so many exceptional swimmers!
