Y9 Parent Consultations – January 16th 2019
Dear Parents/Guardians,
You are invited to attend the Year 9 Parents’ Consultation on Wednesday 16th January from 4pm-6.30pm.
In previous years we have received feedback about the Year 9 Parents’ Consultation Event which has indicated that some staff who have a lot of classes are unable to accommodate all of their students. This was particularly problematic for those students wanting to gain advice if they were considering taking the subject at IGCSE. As a result we ask you to only book an appointment if your son/daughter is interested in taking the subject in Year 10. For the same reason we will not offer appointments with GTS teachers this year, as many of these teachers also teach other Year 9 subjects. We anticipate that the combination of these two restrictions will give priority to those students thinking of taking the subject further.
From Thursday 10th January (at 12.00pm), you will be able to make appointments to see your child’s teachers via the Gateway in the Parent Consultation module. The booking system will close at 12.00pm on Tuesday 15th January. Please refer to the link below for instructions on how to make appointments.
In addition, there will be an opportunity to listen to a presentation by the Head of Careers and Higher Education, Mr David Stott and the Careers and Higher Education Counsellor, Ms Gigi Lam about how our (I)GCSE programmes relate to future pathways and career choices. This seminar will be held in Room 237 at 4.00pm and will be repeated again at 5.00pm. The talk will last approximately 30 minutes, so please be aware that during your selected seminar you should avoid making appointments to see your child’s subject teachers. You will be able to book a place for this presentation on Gateway. Mr Stott and Ms Lam will also be available for booking individual appointments on the evening for those parents who have more specific questions about Higher Education.

Please note that the consultations will be taking place in the College Hall as well as the classrooms along the second floor corridor. Here is a detailed FLOOR PLAN which indicates the location of all subject teachers. Therefore, please use this as you are planning your appointments to ensure that there is sufficient movement time between teachers and locations. We recommend a minimum of five minutes between appointments.
Finally, we would like to point out that some classes in Year 9 have two teachers delivering the subject. In this case only one of the teachers will be available for you to book with, although they have discussed in detail the progress of the students in the class.

We recommend that your child also attends the event because it is vital that they are part of the discussion and have full input during the options process.
The Y9 Options form is online and will open on Thursday 10th January. Students will need to use their own login to gateway to make their selection. Parents will need to confirm the selection on Gateway before this is submitted. The deadline for students to make their option choices is January 29th.
