World Book Week – 4th – 8th March

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We will celebrate World Book Week at Sha Tin College between 4th and 8th March 2019. There will be an array of activities during the week, including ‘Battle of the Books’, Slam Poetry and bookmark competitions. We will also hold our annual ‘Drop Everything and Read’ initiative, when both staff and students read for twenty minutes on Thursday 7th March. Students need to bring in a reading book for this event.

On Monday 5th March, we have the pleasure of hosting twice novelist, and former Sha Tin College student, Sergio Monteiro. He will conduct writer workshops and presentations throughout the day. In addition, acclaimed writer of the Time Rider Series, Alex Scarrow, will join us on 11th March. Click here to find out more about Alex. 150 copies of Alex’s ‘Remade’ Trilogy will be available to purchase. Due to the limited number of these, please return your order form as soon as possible. Texts will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Alex will be available to sign copies of the books, after each session.

During Book Week, we will raise money to support our Book Week charity, ‘Room to Read’, which aims to promote literacy and education for females around the world. You can find out more about this charity by clicking on this link. One way we will raise money is through our ‘Literary Character Dress Up’ event scheduled for Thursday 7th March. Students may dress up as a character from literature to celebrate their love of reading. We want to encourage all students who participate to make a small donation, of ten dollars to twenty dollars, to contribute to this worthy cause. All students who participate will also be awarded House points.

Thank you for fostering a love of reading in your children.

Kind regards,

Alexandra Daw                                               Sonia Hansen
