Sha Tin College’s New Head of Middle School

Sha Tin College warmly welcomes Ms Dionne Lashley as a new member of the Senior Leadership Team. Joining us from our fellow ESF school, Discovery College, Ms Lashley will be taking over Ms Lucie Purves’ responsibilities as Head of Middle School in August 2019. Thank you to all the students, parents and staff who joined the various panels and took time to assist in the interview process.

Ms Lashley’s brief biography can be found below:

Ms Dionne Lashley

I am looking forward to joining Sha Tin College as Head of Middle School. I am a believer in the transformational power of a critical education, and am passionate about holistic approaches to student success. I moved to Hong Kong 6 years ago as a teacher of Music and Drama at Discovery College (DC), and have been serving in the role of Dean (Head of Year) for 5 years. I have a keen interest in positive education and I have been helping to develop the approach at DC as a member of the Visible Wellbeing lead team. In addition to the pastoral element of my current role, I have been actively involved in developing inquiry, interdisciplinary approaches, and reshaping assessment culture.

Prior to my move to Hong Kong, I taught and developed curriculum for the performing arts across all 3 IB programmes at an IB World School in Barbados, where I was born. I began my formal teaching career in public schools in the north-eastern United States after completing a BMus in Music Education at Westminster Choir College in New Jersey. A mezzo-soprano, I have also taught tertiary courses in vocal performance and music history and run a successful private studio.

My research interests led me to complete a Master of Science degree in Education Management with Bristol University. My current research project facilitated by the ESF Action Research group is a case study on Strengths-Based Relationships Management.

I am an avid reader, concert-goer, and lover of white sandy beaches. Buzzfeed confirms I am of House Stark. Forever an island girl, I live on Lantau with my partner and family.
