Great Wall Shoot-out 2018
Thanksgiving brings around one of the most anticipated sports events of the year as the Senior Basketball teams from Sha Tin College head off to Beijing to play in the annual Great Wall Shoot-out (GWSO).
Competition is always stiff and this year was no exception. The Boys started well, beating Western Academy Beijing comfortably. Unfortunately, two injuries meant the starting five was depleted and the boys adapted to the new line-ups. A very close loss to the host school ISB ended the first day. Day two and the boys came out a little flat in their first game and were 20 points down at the half, roaring back in the third the game was tied only for Concordia to pull away in the end. The next two games also saw two very close losses. This meant the Boys ended up in the 5/6 playoff which they won handsomely 48-31.
The girls arrived with a strong starting five and were among the favorites to win. However, in winning their first game easily they had a cruel blow with starting point guard Megan Lee suffering from a shoulder injury. This was to be the theme, as top scorer Wai Ching Wong also picked up an injury on day two. Day three saw the team back to full strength and easily winning their remaining two games 41-23 and 53-23 gaining third place overall.
The students had a great time and despite being under considerable injury pressure performed really well.
