Message from the Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

As you will be aware from ESF communications and from media coverage these past few days, schools are preparing for students to be back on school sites in the coming weeks. Preparations are now well underway and discussions are taking place to ensure we comply with the stringent health and safety requirements being gradually outlined by CHP to return students safely to campus. Given our volume of students and the size of our campus and classrooms the challenges presented by social distancing need careful consideration. We will continue to communicate with you on this as we get further clarification and work with our ESF colleagues to ensure the site is ready.

Going forward please note the following:

1) Our Year 11 Term 3 programme got underway on Monday with strong attendance by Year 11 students for our first session. The infographic here will give you a broad sense of the intention behind the new programme designed to prepare our Year 11 students for IBDP/CP study in Years 12 and 13. Year 11 students are strongly encouraged to attend and participate in this programme.

2)  As we approach the end of the school year parents/guardians start to give us notice of their withdrawal from Sha Tin College. The deadline for this is June 1st. If any family knows now that they will be withdrawing we would appreciate knowing in advance of the deadline so we can make adjustments to classes and staffing. The Withdrawal Form is attached below for your reference. If you have any questions about student withdrawal please contact Lorna Gomes <lorna@shatincollege.edu.hk>

3) Our ASA programme kicked off this week with 34 separate activities on offer and 497 students signed up. I had the pleasure of sitting in as the Zoom supervisor with both Griffin and Dragon Houses for their Glee rehearsals. It was utterly impressive to see so many students work so collaboratively online to put their Glee performance together. I look forward to seeing the final performances come together.

4) Our Student Council launched their fundraiser in aid of the Refugee Union this week. After only 5 days of fundraising the students have already raised HK$12,600. Thank you very much for your support of this student-led initiative. There is still time to support our Student Council fundraiser. Please make your donations via this Paypal link and visit the website here for more information.

We hope to be in touch with you in due course in regard to student return to campus. In the meantime have a wonderful weekend.

Kind regards,

Carol Larkin
Principal
