Final CAS Week Arrangements

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As CAS Week 2019 is nearly upon us, the excitement here at Sha Tin College is growing.  This year we once again have a plethora of different local and overseas activities taking place that aim to challenge and surprise our students, push their comfort levels, and ignite life-long passions. CAS week provides our students with an opportunity to build new friendships, work with different communities and expand their horizons.

This year our students are traveling far and wide with opportunities including: visiting and supporting communities in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos; trekking in Nepal and Japan; kayaking in Canada; and completing conservation activities in Borneo and Chengdu. Closer to home, some of the activities on offer include: students learning to sail; teaching English at a local primary school; and expanding their skills in pottery and photography. For our Year 7 students, we welcome back our touring group of Artists “ISTA” to inspire and create, whilst our Year 13 students will have dedicated time to work on college applications and plan for their future.

How do we stay connected?

Be sure to keep up to date with our numerous activities taking place throughout the week by connecting to our Facebook and Instagram pages https://www.facebook.com/ESFShaTinCollege/ and https://www.instagram.com/shatincollege_hk

Current Situation

In response to the current situation in Hong Kong, please be aware of some additional considerations regarding CAS week this year.

Travel to Hong Kong International Airport

  • Ensure you give at least 90 minutes more time than usual to travel to and into HKIA.  Travel routes may be slower than normal and additional security may require queues to access the airport.
  • Students must have a copy / photograph of their flight ticket with them.  This will be provided by trip leaders and will be essential to enter the airport / airport express.
  • Please be aware that unfortunately, parents / guardians may not be permitted to enter the airport without a valid ticket. Rest assured though, our trip leaders will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of your child inside the airport at the agreed meeting point

Collection from Hong Kong International Airport

As the situation is subject to change, specific instructions regarding collection / safe home travel of your child upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport, may change at the time of arrival.   We hope that movement through the airport will be smooth and that students can access airport transport / taxis / meet with parents as normal.  However, please be assured, that in the event that there are protests in or around the airport upon arrival of your child’s flight, trip leaders will ensure the safety and security of transport home, before releasing students.  Should you be planning to meet your child upon arrival at the airport, we recommend that parents have a copy of their child’s return flight to assist in allowing them access to the airport.

Local Trips in Hong Kong

All local trips are booked and ready to go!  However, please be aware that there may on occasion be alterations to the planned schedules to assist in securing the safety of our students.  We would advise parents to keep an eye on communication lines including: email / phones and the school website, during CAS week, to be kept up-to-date with any unexpected changes.  The safety of our students, remains, as always, our utmost priority.

We are expecting another successful, fun-filled, challenging and inspiring CAS week here at Sha Tin College. We can’t wait to experience it with you!

Kind Regards,

Mrs Kate Rogers
Vice Principal
