Message from the Principal

Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As we approach our Lunar New Year holiday I wanted to take a moment to share some of the wonderful things that have been happening at the College in recent weeks and months.
As with every term at Sha Tin College we have celebrated many achievements with our students. Of particular note is that our first ever AYP Gold Award Certificates arrived for our recently graduated alumni. This is a considerable achievement for last year’s Year 13 students given their many other demands, in addition to the rigorous training for the Gold Award.  As you will know, Sha Tin College excels in the area of outdoor education, and our AYP Bronze and Silver numbers continue to grow. The skills and resilience our students develop from participation in these programmes is an important and valued aspect of the education we provide.
This week we also celebrated with our Years 11 and 12 students their ASDAN New Horizon and Bronze Awards. This is a significant achievement for our students and recognises many years of dedicated hard work in meeting the requirements of the award. I know you will join me in congratulating these students on their success.
The campus has been a sea of colour this week as our students used Valentine’s Day to raise funds for several charities through the sale of chocolates and flowers. Every lunchtime this week has also been an opportunity for students to enjoy Chinese cultural activities. A special thank you to our parents for their support running events and food stalls for our students. A particular acknowledgement and congratulations also to Cherry Wong in Year 12 who had one of her art pieces selected as the ESF Chinese New Year e-card. The card is attached below.
As I am sure you will have experienced at home, children often remind us of the importance of developing better practices around matters of the Environment and Sustainability.  As such, Sha Tin College will be removing single-use plastic water bottles from sale in our canteen. This has been a well-received initiative from our community as we continue to explore ways to develop sustainable practices in tandem with our student environmental leaders.
As we look forward to the coming half term I’d like to draw your attention to the ESFC 50th Anniversary Carnival at KGV on March 17th.  This is the culminating event in a year of celebrations for the ESF 50th anniversary and all families are warmly invited.
Feedback from our community is a very important part of our growth and development. In early March you should be receiving the biennial ESF Survey. We have also taken the opportunity to get further College-specific feedback from you on our ARR processes. We appreciate the time you will take in filling out the survey so we can incorporate the feedback as part of our ongoing development.
If you would like to follow life at Sha Tin College more closely please follow our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram posts!
May I also take this opportunity to wish you and your family a safe and prosperous Lunar New Year holiday from everyone at Sha Tin College.
We look forward to welcoming all students back on Tuesday, 27th February.
Kind regards.
