Year 8 CAS Week

22nd September, 2015

Dear Parents

Year 8 CAS Week 12th to 16th October 2015

As you are aware during CAS Week your son/daughter will participate in a creative and innovative week working with Scottish Opera to produce two junior operas.  Students will be coached and guided through intensive rehearsals by the Scottish Opera team from the UK, Year 12 Student Leaders and STC Staff.  They will sing, play musical instruments, dance, act, work with media, costumes, stage and set design.

The week will culminate in three performances: one matinee for Sha Tin Junior students and one for Year 7 students, and an evening performance for Sha Tin College parents/family to take place on Thursday 15th October at 6.00pm in the school hall on the 2nd floor of Block 1. You are warmly invited to attend the parent/family performance (please note a maximum of two guests per child can be accommodated). Please complete the RSVP attached by Monday Oct 5th if you wish to attend this evening performance and the relevant number of tickets will be allocated to your child.   If you do not return the attached slip by Mondy Oct 5th we will assume you do not wish to attend and allocate your seats elsewhere.

During CAS Week school buses will operate as normal and your child should be at school no later than 8.15am each day to register. Students will finish at the usual time of 3.20pm on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday only. On Thursday 15th October students will remain in school for the performances with Scottish Opera at 1:30 pm and 6.00pm. Pizza will be provided for students on Thursday evening. This performance is expected to conclude at approximately 7:30pm. On Friday, students will finish after their performance and reflection activities at 12.00pm. Parents should make their own travel arrangements for students to get home on Thursday evening and on Friday at 12 noon as school buses will not be available at those times.

All students are requested to wear their rehearsal t shirt or school PE kit for the week’s rehearsals.

We believe that this is a unique, innovative and creative educational experience which students will love and never forget. Through music, art, design, theatre and film, students will have an integrated learning experience working with Scottish Opera and they will be taken from the comforts of their classroom to the stage and multi-arts world of Opera! We look forward to celebrating their many achievements together as a school community.
