Year 10 Transition to GCSE

13th November, 2015
  Year 10 Transition to GCSE

Dear Parents/Guardians
I am writing to provide you with information on calendared events for Y10 students and their parents to assist their successful transition to GCSE.
We wish to invite you to an information evening on Wednesday 2nd December from 5.30 to 6.30pm in the school hall. The purpose of the evening is to give you some more detailed understanding of the INSIGHT tests which your child took in April this year. These are baseline and curriculum tests which are designed to estimate potential rather than academic achievement.
INSIGHT tests can provide valuable guidance for students, parents and teachers in informing how they can support students in their learning. After the presentation, you will be able to collect a copy of your child’s INSIGHT data. Please note that test results are confidential and must be signed for by parents. Students will already have seen their data in meetings with their subject teachers and so there is no need for them to attend this evening.
During the period 23rd November to 4th December all Y10 students will be meeting with their subject teachers for progress meetings. In this meeting students (rather than subject teachers) will record the outcomes of the meeting. These outcomes will then be discussed with the student’s tutor during one to one meetings during the week beginning 4th January 2016. The format of the interviews will be set using the template below:
This process will enable students to create up to three targets in each subject area which will advance their learning. We appreciate your help in supporting your son/ daughter in this process by sharing conversations at home which will encourage them to achieve their targets.
We hope that this approach will allow students to reflect on their transition to GCSE and stimulate discussions between students, their parents and teachers.
If you are able to attend the INSIGHT information evening please confirm your attendance via email to Ms. Allie Cho, the middle school administrator and tell her how many will attend at the email address below: allie.cho@shatincollege.edu.hk
Please remember that there is limited parking at the College so if possible try to make your way here using public transport. Light refreshments will be provided.
Kind regards
