TEDxYouth
Sha Tin College’s first ever TEDxYouth talk, which took place on the evening of 17th of March in Sha Tin Junior’s school hall, promised both captivating and compelling talks, and delivered no less than such. At once humorous, thought-provoking, and touching, the event’s speakers of the evening presented their varying thoughts on the theme of “The Next Chapter”.
The event was livestreamed on the “TedxShatinCollege” Facebook page for those interested who couldn’t attend. The talk provided a large platform for STC students to share their interpretations of “The Next Chapter”, including but not limited to ventures into natural and human sciences, as well as deeply personal and moving stories about overcoming challenges to move forward. In the spirit of TED’s message, Ideas worth spreading, these powerful talks provided insights into our ever-evolving world; speakers departed from the spotlight having left the audience with questions to ponder upon.
Aside from the seven student speakers, the event also welcomed two guest speakers: Ms. Natalie Chan – founder of OWN Academy – and Mui, Tina, and Rog Thomas, authors of “The Girl Behind the Face”. Both provided inspirational insights into their stories and life experiences. Every speaker delivered with articulacy and passion, and the audience was captivated by their electrifying personalities and enlightened messages.
“[We hope that] students will be more encouraged to participate in public speaking and express their ideas in the future,” shared student directors of the event, Katherine Esser (13P1) and Angela Fu (13X2).
In correspondence with the theme of the evening, each speaker reflected the importance of the next generation, “The Next Chapter”, and our role in shaping the future. As Joshua Chu of 10X1 put forth, “If we want to see a change in our future, don’t just be the change. Be the difference.”
And with the encouragement of the evening’s nine different stories, we can welcome with varying degrees of certainty and excitement, our “Next Chapter”.
