“Taking care of YOU” series: “Relationships”

Please join AFHK and SNNHK on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 19:00 to 21:00 for our upcoming joint event, SURVIVING & THRIVING: Maintaining a Healthy, Resilient Partnership in the Midst of Parenting Challenges.

View details and register online now.

Protecting your relationship with your partner can be challenging while caring for a child with special needs, trauma or those from difficult beginnings. While there are moments of true joy and accomplishment, there are also moments of depletion and loneliness. Numerous appointments, disruptive behavior, and challenges to self-care can add to the already existing stress of work/academic life and travel schedules. Sometimes friends, family, and even helping professionals unwittingly add to the strain through unfamiliarity or insensitivity. Although thriving might be defined differently throughout the journey, couples can find their way to health and resilience as a unified team in the midst of challenges.

Our speaker has walked this journey both personally as well as professionally, and will share honestly through her own experiences. Join us for this informative and engaging talk, whether you and your partner:

…are finding it difficult to move beyond just trying to stay afloat

…are feeling stuck and need additional suggestions

…are doing well but just want to be proactive about addressing potential challenges that may come.

This talk is appropriate for: adoptive and foster parents, parents of children with special needs, trauma, psychiatric or behavioral issues, and/or parents considering adding to their family through birth, adoption, or foster care. Professionals including social workers, mental health professionals, educators, and any others supporting families are also welcome.
