Student Council Elections

It has come to that time of the year when we must say farewell to the current General Cabinet of the Sha Tin College Student Council, and thus welcome the new Apprentice Cabinet.

With applications beginning in November, prospective members of the Student Council went through a round of vigorous interviewing, resulting in 11 candidates that competed for the 6 positions – Chairperson, 2 Vice Chairperson(s), Chief of Communications, Treasurer, and Secretary.

The day of the election was different from previous years due to the construction work taking place in the hall. Students were split into three groups: Year 7, 8 and 9s; Year 10s and 11s; and Year 12s and 13s. Each group entered the hall during different periods to watch each candidate speak and cast their votes. With the competition fierce and the atmosphere electric, every speech brought a new wave of cheers from the audience.

Elections were held on the 23rd of February, in the school hall.

“All participants were engaging and thoughtful with their speeches, and carried themselves with a professional, dignified air,” said the current Vice Chairperson of the General Cabinet, Brian Li. “I believe that the student body has made the correct decision in voting for the candidates they found most suitable. I look forward to working with the new apprentice cabinet in the upcoming term!”

Our new Apprentice Cabinet is as follows:
Chairperson: Julian Poon
Vice Chairs: Ching Hei Cheng and Valerie Cheng
Chief of Communications: Christine Wong
Treasurer: Jonathan Zein
Secretary: Tiffany Yu
