STC Joins The Alliance of Sustainable Schools (TASS)
We are thrilled to announce that Sha Tin College has officially become a member of The Alliance of Sustainable Schools (TASS)! On the 7th of June, students and staff gathered to witness the signing ceremony, marking a significant step towards shaping a greener future for our school.
TASS is a non-profit network of schools working together to help accelerate the transition to a sustainable future. The Alliance aims to catalyse change for sustainability by engaging with students in environmental issues and partnering with innovative local organisations to reduce the impact of human activity on the natural environment.
Through TASS, we are aiming to push systemic change in five major areas of the school system: buses, buildings, food, uniform, and education. This involves the use of biodiesel as a low-carbon transport fuel in school buses; buildings that contribute to local and national sustainability objectives; low-carbon cafeteria meal options; second-hand uniform trading; and interactive online learning programmes for teenagers to learn about how they can make a positive impact on the environment. Furthermore, TASS provides numerous sustainability internships, giving students the opportunity to develop work experience in the field of sustainability.
TASS also has a student ambassador programme, with two students from each school networking with other ambassadors around the world to advocate for environmentally friendly alternatives to existing systems that perpetuate unsustainability in schools. A huge congratulations to Daniel Cheng and Winson Huang, who will be representing STC as our TASS ambassadors!
We hope this opportunity will help increase the school community’s awareness of the importance of sustainability, and encourage both students and staff to be more environmentally conscious during their everyday activities. Thank you to everyone for supporting our school’s transition towards a more sustainable future!
