STC Food Drive

Dear STC families

This week the Food Design team invited ‘Food Angels’ to deliver a talk to our year 9 students on food waste, sustainability and Hong Kong’s food insecurity problem. As a department we are reflecting on how we can improve our own practices but are encouraging students to consider the choices that they make too. For those of you who don’t know who ‘Food Angels’ are, they are a charity organisation that rescues edible surplus foods from different sectors of the food industry which would normally be disposed of as waste and then uses it to create nutritious hot meals for the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong. During the talk we heard a harrowing story about an elderly person as old as 95, pushing trolleys to collect cardboard to make money to live off. The amount they earn is not enough to meet their basic needs. As a result 1 in 3 elderly struggle with their health because they are not getting enough nutrition.

‘Food Angels’ collect packaged, long life food products through donations. We would therefore like to invite our STC families to be part of the hunger solution and join the year 9’s in collecting food items. These will then be delivered to ‘Food Angels’ to be used for the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong. Please see the attached poster of food items that are accepted.
Your participation would be very much appreciated and we thank you in advance for your contributions to the STC food drive.

Thank you
