STC Debating Makes Clean Sweep

Winning all five rounds and breaking second place, the STC Senior Debating Team snatched an astonishing victory at the annual 12th Senior Debate Tournament held by the Hong Kong Schools’ Debating and Public Speaking Community (HKSDPSC) on Saturday, defeating 28 schools to the spot with 1309 speaker points.

“Though all of us are quite new to the debating scene and have not received any proper training, we still managed to defeat quite a few well-established teams,” said Henry Lui, a member of the STC Senior Debating Team. “I’m really proud of what we have achieved in the past 6 months.”

In September, Sha Tin College took the title of 2nd Runner-Up at the 11th HKSDPSC Senior Debating Tournament Finals.

The current team, whose members are Cedric Li, Henry Chiu, Henry Lui, Martha Tin, and Jennifer Yu, was formed at the beginning of the academic year. Since, it has quickly climbed up the ranks to become one of the more respected teams in the city’s debating scene.

The team would also like to offer their thanks to Mrs. Wong for her continual support for the STC Debating Team, and Ms. Buis for her help with adjudication -this certainly would not have been possible without them.
