Sex Education Talk – Year 7

Sex Education Talk – Year 7
Dear Parents and Guardians
I am writing to inform you of an event we have organised in partnership with the Global Thinking Skills (GTS) Department. At about this time of the year, before the Year 7 students go to camp, they are taught a lesson in their GTS lessons called ‘Growing Up’.  As this is a crucial time in the development of these young adolescents, we want to make sure to build on the learning they experienced during ‘Sex Education’ whilst in Year 6 at Sha Tin Junior School (and hopefully all other feeder schools as well). The Year 7 students will also learn about Puberty and Sexual Reproduction in their Science classes throughout the year, and some outside experts will come into school to build upon student knowledge when the Science teachers are delivering these units.
This year, we are fortunate to be hosting a local health expert, Dr Helen Duckworth-Smith. She will talk to all Year 7 students tomorrow in Period 1. She is a Family Health Physician, member of the Royal College of Physicians/GP’s, with an interest in Adolescent Medicine, and has had four children educated in the ESF. Her practice (OT&P Medical Practice) has graciously allowed her time away from work to speak with our students, and to answer any questions. The student questions can be anonymous, too. There is no cost for our students or the College.
We are confident of your support for this aspect of your child’s education. If you have any questions about the talk, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours sincerely
James Lewis
