Re: Summer Examinations – May 2017

To all Year 10 Students and Parents
Summer Examinations – May 2017
The main bulk of Summer Examinations will start on Monday 22th May and finish on Thursday 1stJune. These examinations are designed to give students the opportunity to get the feel of examination conditions. In this way, we hope that both students and their subject teachers can ascertain their areas of strength and any aspects of their academic work that need special attention.
Study Leave
In order to make this as valuable an experience as possible, we have arranged for our Year 10 students to have study leave from Monday 22th May and finish on Thursday 1st June inclusive.  Classes will resume on Friday 2nd June 2017.
A copy of the exam timetable is attached and can be viewed on the school website. Morning exams start at 8.30am; afternoon exams usually start at 1.00pm so that students can catch the school buses. All exams will take place in the Hall, unless otherwise noted.
Students need to gather in the Senior School Centre 15 minutes before the scheduled start of an exam. It is the responsibility of the students to arrange to be in school at the correct time for all their exams – no reminders will be given, nor phone calls made.
Study in school
Students who have morning and afternoon exams on the same day or those who wish to revise in school – may make use of designated study rooms in school. The rooms that are available will be displayed in the entrance foyer and the notice board next to the exams office.
* These rooms are for silent studying – socialising should take place in the tuck shop area.
Students may NOT assume to have use of their form rooms during these times as the rest of the school continues to have regular classes. Students may use the tuck shop between exams, or leave school or go to one of the study rooms. In order to respect the learning which is happening in school during this time students should not use the library, nor disturb PE lessons or wander around the school.
Examination rules and procedures
The UK Examination Boards have a very strict and comprehensive set of rules governing the conduct of all examinations. We shall follow these regulations in the summer examinations. A copy of the regulations is attached.
School will provide calculator TI-30XB upon request.  However, if you are using TI Nspire calculators for a Mathematics exam, please make sure it is in test-to-press mode. Please see the information attached for details of how to do this.
Examination arrangements
Please note that students will not be allowed to take bags, phones and watches into the hall. These will need to be stored in a secure location outside the hall and it is the responsibility of each individual student to ensure the security of their belongings.
Students are required to come in school uniform. It is likely to be cold in the hall so students should bring a warm top.
Students on Exam Study Leave
All students must:
  • Swipe in and out with their Octopus card on every occasion that they attend school.
  • Sign in and out of the Y10, Y11, Y12 or Y13 book at reception, as appropriate. This rule is in place to ensure we comply with legal fire regulations.
Note to candidates:
You must put your Hong Kong ID card, Octopus card (with photo), or Student card on the right hand corner of your table during the examination.
If you have any clashes on your timetable see me ASAP in room 117 if you have not already done so.
I hope that parents will encourage students to prepare thoroughly for these exams.
Best wishes for the next few weeks.
