Chinese New Year Festivities at Sha Tin College
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Chinese New Year preparations are well underway, here at Sha Tin College, to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Our events this year include:
❏ A Chinese New Year Board competition, with tutor groups producing a board that celebrates the Year of the Dog. Materials used must be recycled Lai See packets.
❏ The Year 7s’ growing plants and painting Fai Chun, or lucky messages, for the elderly. The plants and Fai Chun will be donated as gifts to the residents at Sin Tin Toa, Home for the Aged, on Thursday February 8. We will be taking Service representatives to the elderly home. We are also planning to take donations, such as: biscuits, Chinese tea, rice, fresh fruit, wet wipes, toothpaste, face and hand creams, socks, hats and scarves. We would be grateful if you could leave your donations at Reception or with Mr Chiu in 246, by Friday February 2.
❏ Students will be also be learning about Chinese New Year and Chinese culture during their Chinese lessons. The Chinese Department is hosting activities during lunchtime which include: Chinese painting, calligraphy, paper cutting, hand craft, Chinese rope jumping and dumpling making. We hope students engage in these meaningful activities and also have fun.
❏ On Thursday February 15, we will have our celebratory Chinese New Year Celebrationon the basketball courts. We will host guest calligraphers producing Fai Chun lucky messages and there will be free Chinese traditional snacks produced by the PTSA. There will also be various wonderful student performances, a highlight for everyone.
On behalf of the staff, we wish you good health and luck in the Year of the Dog!
Warm regards,
Michael Chiu and Danielle Yang
