Calendar Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have recently updated the Calendars page on the school website. This page provides an overview of the school events occurring at STC this year, details about term dates and holidays, and our assessment calendars.

The purpose of these assessment calendars is to share with our community the planned assessment deadlines to assist with the development of time management skills and the students’ ability to meet their deadlines. The assessment calendars are an important tool for us as we try to strike a balance between a manageable workload for students and helping them to perform at their best, meeting the demands of their courses while managing other activities outside of school.

We recognise that there may be deviations from this plan throughout the year and we will do two things to ensure that you have access to the most recent information around assessment. Firstly, the exact date of the assessment will be shared via the home learning app, at least one week in advance of the due date. Secondly, we will update these calendars at least once per term to ensure that you have the latest plan for the upcoming assessments.

Finally, we have amended the format of the assessment calendars to have the following features:

• For students in Years 7 to 9, we wanted to highlight the difference between a test (which requires study beforehand) and the completion of a class based assessment (which is principally a result of classwork and requires less time outside of class to complete).
• For students in Years 10 and 11 we have separated the assessments into coursework and progress indicators (significant pieces of assessment contributing to the final course result) and tests (useful indicators of student understanding at the end of each topic).
• For Years 12 and 13 the calendar only shows the deadline dates of internal assessments for the Diploma Programme.
