Book Week letter
Dear Parents,
Sha Tin College will be celebrating World Book Week from the 5th until the 9th March. There will be an array of activities taking place, during the week, including a ‘Battle of the Books’ competition, a Slam Poetry inter-House competition and our annual ‘Drop Everything and Read’ which will take place for twenty minutes on Thursday 8th March. Students will be expected to bring in a reading book for this event.
On Monday 5th, we have the pleasure of hosting Manga artist, Sonia Leong, whose first graphic novel was Manga Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet. Her awards include 2008 ‘Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers’ and ‘Best Books for Young Adults 2008’ for Romeo and Juliet. She was also the winner in Tokyopop’s first UK Rising Stars of Manga competition. Click here to find out more about Sonia. Sonia will be selling a number of her books that day. You can find out more information by clicking here.
During the week, we will be raising money in support of our book week charity, ‘Room to Read’, which aims to promote literacy and education for females around the world. You can find out more about this charity by clicking on this link. One of the ways we will be raising money will be through our ‘Literary Character Dress Up’ event which will also take place on Thursday 8th March. Students may dress up as a character from literature to celebrate their love of reading. We would like to encourage all students who take part to make a small donation of ten dollars to twenty dollars to contribute to such a worthy cause. All student who participate will also be awarded house points.
Thank you for fostering a love of reading in your children.
Kind regards
Alexandra Daw
