My experience working with HK Ballet gave me a memorable, new experience that taught me many things. As I had never worked such long hours before, the job truly challenged me to my limits and forced me to push myself in ways I wouldn’t get to in school. I was able to experience many jobs within the space, including managing VR goggles, troubleshooting programs, set building, and leading exhibitions as a tour guide. For example, as a tour guide for the HKBallet Wizard of Oz exhibition, I had to speak in Cantonese, building on both my Cantonese language proficiency and communication skills with staff and guests. It also helped me gain confidence in public speaking, as I had to continuously recite scripts in front of strangers who relied on me to guide them through the entire exhibition.

Furthermore, because the exhibition had guests wearing VR glasses the whole way through, I learnt a lot about virtual reality and what it takes to develop a program for it. Speaking to professionals in the computer science field made me gain an appreciation for program developers that allow for such experiences. There were several challenges along the way I had to deal with, such as the seemingly never-ending hours and the lack of breaks. However, I met many new people that I could rely on, which made the experience much more meaningful and enjoyable.
