Child Safeguarding at Sha Tin College

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this email finds you well and happy.

My purpose in writing is to inform you that, since the start of term, I have attended each year group assembly to explain and/or reinforce the vital issue of child safeguarding and protection. I will conclude with the Year 12 students on Tuesday September 24.

I am sure you are aware that everyone in the ESF believes the wellbeing of each child is at the centre of all we do each day. This is not only because wellbeing is essential to optimize learning, but also so that each individual has the opportunity to flourish. Our ESF Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy is based on the United Nations ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ (Paris 1948). It is every child’s right to learn and live in conditions which protect them from harm and promote their intellectual, physical, emotional and social wellbeing. Here is a link to our Policy (English and Chinese) a copy of which you can also find on our website.

This is the assembly I delivered to your child (Year 7 – 9 assemblyYear 10 – 13 assembly).  As the Child Protection leader at the College, my responsibilities include communicating in ways which educate students about their rights and entitlements, in partnership with my colleagues. Additionally, students are encouraged to speak out if there is ever anything or anyone impeding their wellbeing.

Staff here are confident and competent about responding to child protection and safeguarding matters in both proactive and reactive ways. Please be reassured that your child’s welfare, security and individual needs are what we strive for, each day.

Warm wishes,

Chris Rowlands
Vice Principal
