Y10 Examinations – March 2019
Dear Year 10 Students, Parents and Guardians,
The main bulk of the Y10 Examinations will start on Monday 18th March and finish on Monday 25th March 2019. These examinations are designed to enable students to experience and familiarize themselves with IGCSE and GCSE assessments under formal examination conditions. The examinations will also enable students and their subject teachers to ascertain areas of strength and any aspects of their academic work that need special attention.
Study Leave
In order to make this as valuable an experience as possible, we have arranged for our Year 10 students to have study leave from Monday 18th March and finish on Monday 25th March inclusive. Classes will resume on Tuesday 26th March 2019.
Timetable
A copy of the exam timetable is attached and can be viewed on the school website. Morning exams start at 8.30am; afternoon exams start at 1.00pm, so that students can catch the school buses after school. All exams will take place in the Hall, unless otherwise noted.
Students need to gather in the ground floor gymnasium in the Hall Block 15 minutes before the scheduled start of an exam. In line with external examination rules, it is the responsibility of the student to arrange to be in school at the correct time for all their exams – no reminders will be given, nor phone calls made.
Study at school
Students who have morning and afternoon exams on the same day or those who wish to revise in school may make use of designated study classrooms* in school. The rooms that are available will be displayed in the entrance foyer and the notice board next to the exams office.
* These rooms are for silent studying – socialising should take place in the canteen area.
During the times when students do not have an examination, please note that their tutor room must not be used, as the rest of the school continues to have regular classes. Students may use the canteen between exams, or leave school or go to one of the designated study rooms. In order to respect the learning which is happening in school during this time, students should not use the Library, nor disturb PE lessons or wander around the school.
Examination rules and procedures
The UK Examination Boards have a very strict and comprehensive set of rules governing the conduct of all examinations. We shall follow these regulations in the Y10 Examinations. A copy of the regulations is attached for your review and reference.
Examination arrangements
Please note that students will not be allowed to take bags, phones and smartwatches into the Hall. These will need to be stored in a secure location outside the Hall and it is the responsibility of each individual student to ensure the security of their personal belongings.
Examinations will only be rescheduled in cases of exam classes or sickness. If you have any clashes on your exam timetable, please see Ms. Wan ASAP in Room 117. If you miss an exam due to sickness, you must inform Mr. Hoang, and present a Doctor’s note in order for your exam to be rescheduled.
Uniform
Students are required to attend their examinations in full school uniform.
Students on Exam Study Leave
All students must swipe in and out with their Octopus card on every occasion that they attend school. They must also sign in and out of the Y10 Registers, at the reception area. These rules are in place to ensure that the school complies with legal fire safety regulations.
Note to candidates:
You are required by the examination boards to have formal identification for each examination. You must therefore place your Hong Kong ID card on your table (on the top right hand corner) during the examinations.
We hope that parents will encourage students to prepare thoroughly for these examinations.
Best wishes for the next few weeks ahead.
Yours faithfully,
Iris Wan Cliff Imeson Paul Hoang
