Vice Principal Interviews 21st Jan. and 22nd Jan.
Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Staff,
The recruitment process for Vice Principal Greg Thornton’s replacement is now well underway. We received over 103 applications from well-qualified and experienced candidates working in schools around the world. A selection panel made up of teacher Emma McAskie, VP Chris Rowlands, parent and Council representative Connie Wong, external representative Perry Tunesi, and myself have met on several occasions to review all applications, select and interview long-list candidates, and then shortlist finalists for interviews here at the College.
As part of that process I am writing to invite all parents to a Meet & Greet with the candidates on Monday 21st January at 8.30 – 9.15am. I would also like to invite parents to the Community Presentations on Monday 21st January at 3.30 – 5.00pm in Room 237.
If you would like to attend either or both of these events please sign-up using the link below so we can cater appropriately for numbers. Please note that the events are only available for parents to sign-up. Staff and students will be involved in the interview process in various other ways.

Mr Paul Drew
It has been Paul’s privilege to lead the Science faculty at Sha Tin College during an unprecedented period of examination success for the school. With twenty-three years of experience in secondary schools (ten of those in leadership positions), he has come to the conclusion that the most important factor in student learning lies in the relationship between the individual student, the teacher and the tasks that the learner is engaged on. He enjoys reading educational literature and was awarded an “Outstanding Student Award” whilst studying for his Masters of Education. He argues, however, that much of the findings of educational research are contradictory and that the most productive way a teacher can advance the learning of his or her students is simply by getting to know them as individuals, each with unique learning needs.
Paul started his career in the UK and taught in schools in Hungary and mainland China before settling in Hong Kong eighteen years ago. During this time he has developed a love of Chinese culture and believes that a truly successful international school in Hong Kong should aim to fuse the finest aspects of both Eastern and Western thinking.
Ms Julie Milligan
I am passionate about chasing possibilities and self-discovery. My career started as a secure treatment counselor working with teens at risk of harming themselves and others. Through this experience, I discovered my ability to be firm yet compassionate, and the depth of my caring for the vulnerable and at-risk. Education allowed me the opportunity to work with diverse adolescents in a holistic way, to empower them to uncover the possibilities in their lives. School administration provided possibilities to collaborate and create systems for student self-discovery and academic achievement to realize their full potential.
I discovered the possibilities of international education after accepting a professional fellowship to leave Canada, to live and collaborate with teachers in Macao. I also cultivated my passion for the intentional design of learning tasks promoting student agency, collaboration, and the abundant possibilities and connections from their learning. I also experienced possibilities for my twin boys and my oldest son, being active members in an international community.
A year ago, I realized my passion for English Boxing, the physical challenge and exertion of hard work; and the benefits to my personal wellness. I also discovered the joy that can be found in facing vulnerability with support and encouragement.
Mrs Kate Rogers
After graduating from Loughborough University with a BSc in Human Biology and a PGCE in Secondary Science, I worked in England for 2 years, before moving to live and work internationally. My experience took me to Dubai, where I have worked at a British / IBDP Curriculum through school, for over a decade. I am a current Secondary School Deputy Principal specialising in Curriculum Design, Data Analysis and Monitoring and Evaluating strategies for strategic improvement. The key areas under my current role, “Curriculum, Assessment and Learning Skills” have improved from “Good” to “Outstanding” during my tenure, as measured by Dubai Schools Inspection Board. I teach IGCSE and IB Higher Level Biology, including a strength in the Internal Assessment element of the IB course. As an educator, I believe in the holistic development of students and the importance of a curriculum that embeds skill acquisition through a balance of academics, arts, sports and social development.
Outside of school, I am a keen runner and an avid traveller. Some of my favourite travel experiences have been backpacking through South America, driving through Italy, and reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. My husband and I welcomed our son, Oscar, into the world last year, who brings a new joy to our lives.
