FAQ – School Bus Service 2019-20

Frequently Asked Questions – Proposed School Bus Service 2019 – 2020

Q: Will the current shuttle buses service (Fo Tan, University and Wu Ka Sai) be available in the new school year? If not, what other options will be available?

A:  No. While the shuttle bus provision has been very successful, it was a pilot project that was heavily subsidised by ESF. As such it is not sustainable over the longer term. Parent feedback on the service also highlighted concern for families on popular routes where students did not have a guaranteed seat. To enable students to reserve a place on shuttle buses from Aug 2019 this will be a pay-in-advance reserved service only.  If anyone wishes to use the shuttle service from Aug 2019, they must reserve their seats through the Kong Shing web page and pay Kong Shing directly.

Q: What about the current school bus service? Do we stop using them?

A: Yes. The current school bus service provided by CityBus is arranged via Sha Tin College PTSA. In response to updated EDB requirements, the PTSA will no longer run the school bus service in the new school year.  As such, CityBus will stop serving Sha Tin College students by the end of June 2019.

Q: Will other private buses still be available after ESF take over the PTSA School Bus Service?

A:  ESF strongly encourages parents to enroll their children for the school bus service with the nominated school bus service provider – Kong Shing Travel Limited. Parents also have the free choice of using other private service provider(s) based on their special needs; however, ESF or Sha Tin College does not have any control over the service rendered by private service provider(s).

Q: On the Kong Shing web page some locations (e.g. Lake Silver) have both a school bus and a shuttle bus service? Are they not the same thing?

A:  The school bus will make different stops to pick up students en-route to campus, while the shuttle bus will make fewer or no mid-way stops, depending on the final enrollment status. Parents can choose to use either depending on their needs.

Q: What can I do if the new school bus service does not cover my home address?

A: Please go to the Kong Shing web page to enter your location details as you register and leave your comments and the location of the service required. Kong Shing are actively looking into the possibility of expanding their service to cover other required areas. Please leave your contact details so that Kong Shing can contact you and advise further. Parents also have the free choice of using other private service provider(s) based on their special needs; however, ESF or Sha Tin College does not have any control over the service rendered by private service provider(s).

Q: If my preferred stop or location is not currently available, what should I do?

A: Kong Shing are open to adding additional stops to their services, please contact Kong Shing directly with requests for additional stops and locations.
