Message from the Principal – Sha Tin College Re-opens

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am delighted to inform you that following the clearance of some debris from Sui Wo Road, Sha Tin College will re-open for students tomorrow Thursday September 20th.

As you can imagine, the external environment immediately around the College is not quite fully cleared and certain areas are still restricted with large trees lying in the road. Sui Wo Road down from the College is largely cleared for vehicle access, however the footpaths are still impassable. Students who usually walk to school will need to exercise great care and consider taking the public bus to school, even for a short distance. The Highways Department are promising further work will be done on the footpaths this evening so the situation may be better in the morning. Some of the downed trees may be very tempting for students to climb on. We would appreciate it if parents and guardians would remind students that some of these trees are very unstable and climbing on them would be very dangerous.

We would like to request parents and guardians not to drive their children to school for the remainder of this week. We are getting daily reports that traffic in Fo Tan and Sha Tin is very congested at the moment. ESF has agreed to fund three free shuttle buses collecting students, parents and staff from Fo Tan MTR Exit B between 7am – 8.45 am, and between 2.50pm – 4.15pm for Thursday and Friday this week. The less traffic on the hill, the more efficiently these shuttle buses will run. Your support of this is greatly appreciated given our ongoing concerns about the safety for students accessing the campus, relative to our wish and yours for students to be able to return to school.

We very much look forward to seeing your children tomorrow. The campus has not been quite the same without them and I am sure they have lots of stories to share!

Kind regards,

Carol Larkin
Principal
