Curriculum Development

Dear Parents,

I am writing to you regarding the future curriculum development decisions that have been agreed across all ESF secondary schools. Our schools will adopt the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students in Years 7-9. The timescale for adoption will be slightly different in each of the schools and the Sha Tin College timescale is outlined below.

The Year 7 cohort joining STC in August 2018 will be the first group to take the 7-9 MYP programme. Their Year 10 and 11 programme will be unchanged with students entered for IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11.

STC currently offers a broad and balanced curriculum in Years 7-9 and delivers the subject areas required by the MYP programme equitably. We anticipate very little change in the breadth and balance of our existing curriculum as we move to adopt the MYP framework. The adoption of the MYP framework throughout ESF schools will provide a consistency of student experience across the Foundation and a natural development from the PYP experience. It will also build on the established and proven 7-9 curriculum at Sha Tin College.

This curriculum development applies to the first three years of secondary education only. Although the full MYP is a five year programme, the Foundation is not looking to end IGCSE examinations. The IBO are very happy to accommodate this situation and consider ESF schools for accreditation as a three year programme only.
Yours sincerely,
Marc Morris
Principal
